Don’t Let Fear Make Your Decisions

Fear is a natural emotion, but it was never meant to become the decision-maker of your life.
Fear may speak when you are considering a new opportunity, beginning a meaningful project, setting a necessary boundary, or stepping into a larger version of your purpose. It may tell you that you are not ready, that you might fail, or that people will not understand.
But fear does not always mean stop. Sometimes fear appears because you are standing at the edge of growth.
When fear is allowed to lead, it often disguises itself as wisdom:
“I should wait until everything is perfect.”
“Maybe I am asking for too much.”
“What if I disappoint someone?”
“What if I try and fail?”
These thoughts can sound reasonable, but they may be keeping you from the very life God is calling you to live.
Courage does not require you to ignore legitimate concerns. It asks you to examine what is driving your decision. Are you making the wisest choice, or simply choosing the option that feels safest? Are you protecting your peace, or avoiding necessary growth?
Fear focuses on everything that could go wrong. Faith reminds you that God will be with you no matter what happens.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
2 Timothy 1:7
You do not have to wait until fear disappears. You can acknowledge it, pray for wisdom, gather the information you need, and choose not to surrender your authority to it.
Before making an important decision, ask yourself:
What would I choose if fear were not controlling the conversation?
Is this decision consistent with my values, purpose, and prayers?
Am I responding to wisdom or retreating because I feel uncomfortable?
What is one courageous step I can take today?
Fear may have a voice, but it does not deserve the final vote.
You can feel afraid and still move forward. You can have questions and still trust God. You can choose courage even while your heart is beating fast.
A Question to Reflect On
Is fear influencing a decision that I know I need to make?
A Thought to Carry With You
Fear will not make my decisions. I will move forward with wisdom, faith, and courage.
