
Stress Is Often a Signal, Not Just a Problem
Stress is something many of us try to push through.
But what if it is trying to get our attention?

April is recognized as Stress Awareness Month,
and it offers us an opportunity to pause and reflect.
Not just on how often we feel stressed
but on what that stress may be revealing.
There have been times when I felt overwhelmed without fully understanding why.
Busy... but not productive.
Tired… but still pushing.
Mentally full… but not clear.
And my first instinct was to keep going.
To push through it.
To ignore it.
To tell myself I would deal with it later.
But what I’m continuing to learn is this:
Stress is often a signal.
A signal that something is out of alignment.
It can point to:
overloaded schedules
lack of rest
emotional buildup
habits that are no longer supporting us
thoughts that are creating internal pressure
When we ignore the signal,
we often increase the strain.
But when we pause and pay attention,
we create an opportunity to respond with wisdom.
When stress begins to rise, I’m learning to return to simple practices that help me reset.
Sometimes that looks like:
stepping away for a few quiet moments
taking slow, intentional breaths
going for a walk to clear my mind
choosing a calming activity that allows me to slow down
Not to escape what I’m feeling
but to create space to respond with clarity.
Stress is not always something to fight.
Sometimes it is something to learn from.
Instead of asking,
“How do I get rid of this stress?”
Instead, try asking:
What is this stress trying to tell me?
