Trust God With the Unknown

October 20, 2026•2 min read

Leslie Sims Palmore standing beside the ocean, reflecting trust and peace while facing the unknown.

Most of us would feel more comfortable moving forward if God showed us the entire plan.

We want to know how the situation will turn out, how long the process will take, which obstacles we will face, and whether our efforts will succeed. We want confirmation before commitment and certainty before obedience.

But faith does not always come with a complete set of instructions.

Sometimes God gives us enough light for the next step, but not enough to see the entire road.

The unknown can feel frightening because it reminds us that we are not in control. Yet that same uncertainty can invite us into a deeper relationship with God. It teaches us to depend on His character when we cannot predict our circumstances.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

Proverbs 3:5–6

Trusting God does not mean pretending that you have no concerns. It means bringing those concerns to Him instead of allowing them to consume you.

It sounds like:

“God, I do not know how this will work, but I trust You to guide me.”

“I cannot control the outcome, but I can be faithful with what is in front of me.”

“I do not understand this season, but I believe You are still present.”

Trust does not promise that the journey will be easy. It gives you a firm place to stand while circumstances are changing.

When you are facing the unknown, focus on what remains known:

God is faithful.

God is present.

God can give you wisdom.

God can redirect you.

God can sustain you while you wait.

You may not know what is coming next, but you do not have to face it alone. The same God who carried you through previous seasons will be with you in this one.

Release the pressure to solve everything today. Pray. Pay attention. Prepare where you can. Then entrust the parts you cannot control to God.

The unknown does not have to become a place of constant fear. It can become sacred ground where your faith develops deeper roots.

A Question to Reflect On

Where is God asking me to trust Him even though I cannot see the full plan?

A Thought to Carry With You

I may not know what lies ahead, but I know who walks with me. I trust God with what I cannot yet see.
